MISCELLANEOUS TIPS, TRICKS, NOTES, ETC.
───────────────────────────────────────
1) Some users may wish to have a logfile indicating the type of virus (if
any) that is detected in the archive. This is easily accomplished by
adding the proper switches for the virus scanner in the SCANDEF section
of the VKILLx.CTL file.
(i.e. /A /NOMEM /HISTORY C:\MAX\LOGS\SCAN.LOG)
This example will work fine with McAfee's ViruScan.
2) On some systems, a virus scanner can take a lifetime to scan memory for
memory resident viruses. In the above example for the logfile, you will
note the /NOMEM option for McAfee's Scan. Simply put this option in both
the firstpass options and the subsequent options in your SCANDEF.
3) On some systems, VKill may experience problems when calling archivers or
virus scanners to run in the popup "External Process" window. In the
upcoming 3.0 release of VKill, you will have the option to run your
scanner/archivers in a "fullscreen" mode. Some scanners, such as TBSCAN,
write directly to the screen, and completely destroy the VKill screen
(on the Sysop side, anyway). This "fullscreen" mode will correct this.
If you have any tips, tricks, notes, etc, that you think would benefit
other VKill users, send 'em in!
